Bugbear are goblinoids of the Goblin family. A bugbear is a massive humanoid distantly related to goblins and hobgoblins, being larger and stronger than any other goblinoid.

In difference to the rest of the goblins and orcs, Bugbears aren't social creatures in principle, and lurk alone in the woods hunting. They will only search for company of other bugbears in mating season, and the female bugbear will raise the one or two litter of bugbear cubs, until they are big enough to hunt themselves alone. Maybe because of this, Bugbears are less fertile than other goblinoids, and have a smaller population.

Individual bugbears will sometimes work as mercenaries with other sorts of goblin-kin, acting as front-line muscle or even assuming leadership positions in hobgoblin and goblin tribes -it's allways easier to make others to hunt for you. They assume mastery over goblins whenever it suits them. Goblins are always quick on their toes when bugbears are around, for the unwary are liable to end up in a bugbear stew-pot-. Some of the larger goblin tribes can have several bugbear serving their chiefs.

Bugbears are carnivores who survive primarily by hunting. They will eat anything they can kill, including sentient beings -being children they prefeered meal-.

Unlike their smaller cousins, bugbears operate equally well in daylight and great darkness.

Bugbears resemble hairy, feral goblins standing several feet tall.
