A Castle in the Degoland Pass.

Before the First War of the Power, as the power of the Dark Legion grew in strenght, the Degolandic King built several castles against the shadow of the Dark Legion: castles and fortifications who weren't enough to stop the demonic invasion.

In the inmediate afterward of the First War of the Power, as a lesson hardly learned, Degoland rebuilt many of their castles and took parts of the old fortifications of the demons -the so called Olga's Wall- and pressed it into it's own service.

However, as the danger of the demons felt dissipated, with the colonization efforts in Polforia -creating the Outregam Realms, the Polforian states of human colonists and with the demon lords still in exile, in their prison, it was felt like many of these castles were superfluous, as there wasn't going to come again an invasion force from the east: only remained some of the main castles, to serve as a point of pass for marching armies, and to take taxes from trade: many of the castles derived from the control of the king of degoland to dukes, barons -and sometimes, thief knights, who took ilegal exactions on travellers-

But as the states of the Outregam began to fall and once more time the orcish and Kanov tribes of the Dargoina mountains began to become more restless, and trade decayed, with the nobles that had held these castles seeing their power decaying, the Sargonic monarchs -now leading a personal union of the kingdoms of Degoland and Sargos-, will began to regain the royal castles from the nobles: an important part of the Degolandic army during the Degoland-Sargos Union, was stationed in the eastern borders, to supress Kanov rebellions and orcish bands.

During the realm of Camilo II the Magnificent, King of Sargos and Degoland of the Huneeus Dynasty, the most powerful castles of the Degoland Pass will be built -as the whole realm was under a process of modernization and fortification under the monarch known as well as the builder-, reinforcing the eastern borders.

But during the Sargonic Wars, as no enemy armies marched from the east, these castles seemed to had been a pointless waste of resources, and much of their garrisons abandoned some of the castles, to fight other battles.

With the end of the Sargonic Wars, the castles of the Degoland Pass remained intact -unlike many cities that where stripped down of their walls by the victorious armies-, and Degoland, again an independent realm under a pretender installed in the throne by the kingdoms of La Cruz, Huncle and Tardos, will see with bad eyes the independence of Roccasone, former Sargonic-Degolandic possession, just beyond the pass.

While Diego the Pretender, the short-lived king of Degoland, wanted to reinforce the castles for a possible campaign against the Petty Kingdom of Roccasone to reconquer what he considered to be a rebel city, his legitimacy and power where questionable, so again many of the castles where abandoned, or left at the hands of local nobility.

With the return of the Huneeus Dynansty with Camilo III, as Diego the Pretender was outed and the personal union of Degoland-Sargos reinstaurated, as the rumours of the return of demons became more and more important, Camilo III garrisoned again the border fortifications, restaurating the abandoned and ruined castles:

this would be wise, and while the castles of the Degoland pass again weren't able to stop the reunited Dark Legion of Demons in their furious campaign of the 2440 a.a.H, they where costly for the Dark legion to take, and costed much resources and precious time for the plans of the Demon overlord Satman the Apprentice, with some aislated castles resisting during the whole campaign, hostigating the demons rear:

but in the same way, after the Miracle at the The Battle of the Plains of Sargos, many of the castles that had been conquered by the Dark Legion costed lengty sieges to the humans to retake, with skirmishes and combats to continue in the Degoland Pass for the next decade.
