Whoever designed these uniforms need a beating by Shabazik

She looked at her bowl the half finished rations, and only then she noticed something.

"We didn't had Ham last night" she statted.

"I went for some shopping in the night" Ali answered. Them being Azimuth Pharmaceuticals rations, as the ones issued to their mercenaries of Zenith Horizon -and the lack of any convenience store on the island!- remarked it was obviously a joke, but she frowned.

"You said, we weren't attacking Zenith Horizon Patrols, or they would be thightening their security"

"I wasn't so careless" Ali said. "I just went on some recon, and found this stuff simply lying around. They newer knew I was even there."

She sighed. She knew Ali was supposed to be the teacher, but often she wondered about the risks he took -to her, they seemed to be quite absurd risks-.

She ate the canned ham.

"Clone"

"What?"

"I think it have come the time to strike"

She left the spoon in the bowl again. It had been about three months since she had her old life destroyed when the mercenaries of Zenith Horizon her village and killed her -adoptive- family. About three months that she was found by the old man Ali, and she began training to become what she had been originally created to be: an assassin.

The same night her village was destroyed, they went after Jeremy and Samantha, the two children she had hidden and sacrified herself on the village raid so they survived. Frightened, they where in the nearby fields of the destroyed village, crying.

While she comforted them, Ali went to look out for the villagers that the mercenaries had captured and herded out of the village. What he later told her, was that he found them in a dry creek, where the mercenaries shoot at them. As he went looking, he found only a badly wounded man, who he brought along. He didn't survived his scars to the same morning.

After that, would be the two weeks travel on foot to the Space Port, where she began some theorical parts of her training -and some physycal conditioning-. Finally when they reached the Space Port -one of the largest settlements on the planet, thightly held by Azimuth Pharmaceuticals and their mercenaries as a "peace keeping force", Ali used some of his contacts -and the same policy of Azimuth Pharmaceuticals of recolocation of illegal settlers- to get two tickets for the young children out of the planet, hopefully to an aunt they had in a Core World.

Hopefully, as she didn't trusted either the contact of Ali and Azimuth Pharmaceuticals -the same company that took for themselves the planet her people was colonizing, and who hired the mercs that killed her family- to do a humanitarian work. Ali reasured that companies often did such things for public relations, but she hadn't any better alternative or plan and had to accept it -and keepinng them would mean settling down in the Azimuth-controlled space port, and then renouncing to vengance...

and if she was craving for something, was vengeance.

After the children left the planet, Ali tried to get using his contacts some weapons, but there was no luck: Azimuth Pharmaceuticals had thightly control on the weapons planetside: in a moment, he tried to buy some assault rifles from some mercenaries of Zenith Horizon, but it ended being a trap. She wasn't there, but Ali told her that it wasn't a trap from Zenith Horizon, but the same mercenaries who wanted to keep both the guns and all all what Ali had over him at the moment of the exchange... but it ended badly for the mercenaries: too bad their weapons were too genetically blocked. According to Ali, a hacker with the proper tools could free the guns, but there wasn't anybody who knew how to do it: so in the end they had to rely only in the hunting weapons of Ali.

That gun trade wasn't all joy and laugh. She remembered that afterward Zenith Horizon discovered the two dead mercs it resulted in ten random hostages to have been executed for what the mercenaries called a terrorist attack. Her blood boiled after that.

After Ali got all the other supplies, they went back to the jungle, to Ali's hunting lodge -she would barely call it a shack-, and to train. She was surprised to find he had an impressive amount of knives, swords and bows, several farming explosives... but not a single gun. Ali said, he found it was more sporting that way -and when he settled in this planet, he was largelly warned it wasn't a gun friendly community. He added as remark, what a good did for them. That time she exploded and cursed, insulted and cried Ali. It wasn't their fault they had choosen a peaceful way of live, when Azimuth and their thugs decided to take over. He just pointed out, they weren't the only two ones who where trying to resist Zenith Horizon military occupation, but surely weapons would have helped. He then left her cry her sorrows, and didn't returned for two days.

Afterwards, they trained  for almost two months. For this time they largelly avoided Zenith Horizon patrols -Ali wanted to avoid them to get attracted to his "Hunting Lodge"-, but as she became more and more proficent assassin, they began to track and follow the corporate mercenaries: no to attack them, but to train her stealth.

In one of these camps on the night, after a rather close encounter with a patrol of the mercenaries, she slipped into his sleeping bag. He was surprised, but did his part. To her, it seemed like he was more doing it as fullfiling a duty than enjoying it, and she decided it was a mistake she wouldn't repeat. For sure thought after that, things were quite awkward for a couple of days.

Finally, when Ali was satisfied with her stealth and combat skills, they left the proximity of his shack and moved to the proximity of the target: the large fuel plant of Azimuth Pharmaceuticals that served as main base in the colonized regions of the planet for the mercenaries of Zenith Horizon.

What followed, was seven days of surveillance, gathering intelligence and observing the base and infraestructure, with him explaining the plan of action.

It seems, after all their preparations, they where finally ready to strike back at Zenith Horizon and their Azimuth Pharmaceuticals masters.

"Finally"

"Rest well clone. You will need it"

"Clone." she said, spitting. It had never been unknown to her she was a clone, and she didn't really minded if people used clone instead of the current political correct term of artificial human. But what was bothering her, that Ali always called her either clone or for her designation code, DSF-378.

"We have been training for two months already, and you always keep calling me Clone. I have a name, you know Old Man?" she called him out.

"So what?"

She wanted to protest, but she already knew it wouldn't be of any use.

Now that she thought of it, while he had never interest of knowing her name, neither she really knew much of him. She knew he was called Ali, not because she asked or he presented himself like that, but because when he arrived at the colony years ago, he did under that name. She was convinced, it wasn't his real name.

She then wondered, what she really knew of him. To get back at him for always calling her clone, she called him Old Man, but he was a middle aged man, not much older than her own father had been. Despise all of his drinking -and eating pork-, he prayed five times a day and seemed to still consider himself a muslim. -not a good one thought-. He was tortured by something on his past, as he spoke in dreams, but he did in a foreign language she ignored -she guessed it to be Bazik-. Her guess was that he had been in one or other of the armies that had kicked each other during the Fifty Years War: he wouldn't have been the only regretful war veteran to leave everything behind -who in many cases where ruins- to go and escape from their own memories at some lost Free colony in the outer core of the Nebula of Ots. His training and his collection of weapons and knives -which were from many different nations, mayve mementos of his past- suggested this to her...

But really, she knew nothing of this from his own mouth.

"...And still I know almost nothing about you. What it's up with all the crazy swords and knives?"

"My private collection" he simply said. "Go to sleep now"
