A Im'Salani elf woman, from the Zarhuycan shores of the Caritz sea.

I M ' S A L A N O Capulus elvii

Race: Im'Salani
Class: Half Elf
Specie: Elf / Kanov

Other names: Salani, Imad'Salami, Im'Salah, Salah, Imsalani, Imadi, mahreeli, mahreksh, Grievance elf, Brown Elf, Kanov Elf, half-kanov.

Alligance: Independent cities -Imad'Salam, Moh'Handinke, etc-, Caliphate of Blazakhov

The Im'Salanos are a race of Rossnes light elves who lived in north-western Zarhuy.

Really, they aren't elves, but half-elves. However, what made them distinctive from other half-breeds, it's that rather than lonely individuals, product of the not so frecuent inter-species relations, the Im'Salanos are a nation of half-elves, with a distinctive culture -so other half-elf, half-kanov, aren't considered Im'Salanos.

The origin of the Im'Salanos are in the end and fall of the High elven imperialism in Zarhuy, during the Age of Invasions and after the Apparition of Humanity.

The age of Invasions, called like that due the massive migrations and invasions triggered by the apparition of humanity, was a terrible moment for the High elven colonies, kingdoms and settlements of Zarhuy -and later, of Aels and Hieyoks-.

They where already weakened by the Wars of the Plains, fought against the orcs: and when the Kanovs advanced with their numbers, there wasn't much for the high elves to oppose them, and many times, the former glorious and rich Zarhuycan elven kingdoms where destroyed, with the population slaughtered, enslaved or dispersed in the fields, originating from the survivors of these cathastrophes the sand and wild elves, marginal survivors and mere shadows of the former high elven kingdoms.

Tryan'marhiel, a High elven kingdom of silver elves located in the northwestern shores of Zarhuy, to the sea of Caritz, was one of the many high elven kingdoms that where destroyed, after resisting for 13 years war and siege by the still barbaric and brutal kanovs.

As the Kanov invaders entered in the city, with the walls in ruins and doors broken, angered by the long and bloody war they had to fight to conquer the city, they killed all the male elves that could use arms, taking their women and children as slaves.

However, the rough kanov warriors, impressed by the city they conquered with blood and steel, decided to settle in the ruined high elven city -renaming it Try'marhak-. Having few woman of their own, the kanov take as concubines the high elves, and as children where born these half-elves, shame to elfkind and sons of slaves, but as well, heirs of the victors.

These half-elves inherited from their kanov forefathers the dark skin, brown and red eyes, and brown hair, while they inherited from their elven mothers a longer longevity, health, and often, the elven ears.

When the children of the Kanovs and elves of Try'Marhak converted to the Islam, they renamed once more time the city, to Imad'Salám, and they called themselves, the Im'Salanos.

The Im'Salanos considered themselves first as Kanov than elves, but the elven legacy wasn't completely forgotten.

They slowly expanded, being sailors, fishers and naval traders, clashing inlands often with Kanov, human and sand elves, and in the sea, with the Tunecern pirates -who get to put the Imad'Salani cities in such problems, that they had to make an alliance with the Caliphate of the Orange Sun of Blazakhov, for protection.

Yes and no. Yes, because there exist oil in their territories, but no, as in a medieval fantasy setting, the use of oil it's rather limted and the economic value much less than in an industrial setting!

A wonderful job as usual. The history of the origins of the Im'Salanos was grim, but very interesting, as was the evolution from being an elven city-state to being part of the Blazakhovian political structure. I can imagine why they probably considered themselves Kanovs first. Although children raised by elven mothers along with long lives might have gone a long way into keeping the identity of being part elf alive in those descendants.

Indeed, those mixed children were radically different than their high elf mothers, but would have also been very different than their brutal kanov fathers. They could not have been accepted as kanovs either, really. Doubtlessly this contributed to becoming "Im'Salonos" a specific people. The smaller, more slender children, less hairy children being seen as weaklings by the kanovs in general? Perhaps above all, the fact that they would develop and live much longer than their fathers and other kanovs also being a powerful contributor to being different from the fathers and the surrounding kavov people?

Anyway, this is a big population of distinct people that stuck together due to their shared origins and their similarities to each other and differences to others. That, and their long lives, kept them a distinct population and self renewing enclave? Eventually, though, I'm sure that their trading and cosmopolitan ways doomed them to having their elfin nature swamped out genetically? Still, the cities of these people might have been something of a refuge for other half-elves for a time?

Lovely pic, very interesting with the dark skinned woman's head and feet at the top and bottom and the white robe otherwise covering her! She does have a look of enlightenment to her face! I also like how the lines of the loose and nearly amorphous robe still look like a robe rather than just becoming a set of lines, a danger sometimes when using a lot of lines.

oh, many histories are depressing! XO!

But you are right: the trading and cosmopolitan ways, along with fertility of elves and kanovs, and trading with human and kanovs -elves as well, sand elves normally, and later while in Blazakhov calipthate, even with Ushaenor High Elves-, slowly, the elven genetic lines began to grow thinner, while the Kanov -and later human- grew stronger, despise some drops of sand and desert elven blood here and there.

But it was a refugee for half-elves... and many different cultures, having developed in a rather tolerant and cosmopolitan culture!
