40 (who?)
The Howling Keep by Shabazik The Howling Keep by Shabazik

Crawling behind a bush, Bog the Barbarian, observed. He have done his homework, preparing to meet with the werewolf clan of the White Fang, and he was happy he went on a recon ahead, leaving in that Kanov family farm Bogilla to take care of Pumori -or it's really the other way around? that made him remember of the last incident with Bogilla, and he scratched his ass-.

As he had learned from before, the White Fang had a terrible reputation, even among other werewolf clans, with a reputation forged in blood mostly in the last two centuries of wars between the remnants of the Dark Legion in Polforia, where the Clan of the White Fang raised, as a force of chaos.

Just about two decades and half ago, a new leader raised in the White Fang, leading the clan in a serie of furious combats, raids and a thrist for blood and destruction, expanding the territories of the Werewolf pack.

This sort of thing really didn't impressed Bog tht much, having known from previous adventures and quests the normal quarrels and combats between the remnants of the once great empire of the Dark Legion in Polforia. However, even among them, the Clan of the White Fang had a bad reputation, as in difference to other werewolf clans of Mondwargh, rather than just governing over the farmers and servants, normally seen as useful slaves and only ocasionally as divertion of food, the White Fang destroyed and raided with rage all the settlements and villages, cutting down as well the trade routes, where before most of the werewolves prefered to exact tolls to the merchants for crossing their territories.

Supposedly, it was due the new leader, a now old werewolf matron -or an alpha bitch, for the werewolves- who had dominated the White Fang with a paw of iron...

...And now, he was to go there, to tell the feared tyrant, to tell her he found one of her lost pups. Of her or some of her clanswarriors. That was already bad. If they learn, their pup -Pumori- was lost, first of all, for following him, it wasn't going to be pretty.

...So that's why he decided to scout first.

While the werewolves in general aren't known for being builders, or liking the sedentary way of life, they didn't had problems in adapting sometimes what other's builded, for their own uses.

And the Howling Keep of the White Fang, was originally an old Castro Kanov, a fliehburg or refuge castle, that was for long abandoned before the White Fang matron, paranoid of possible attacks of other werewolves -or her own-, re-fortified the ruins, using it frecuently when her clan wandered in these parts of their territory.

Bog take then note of the Howling Keep, looking for possible escape routes in case something go wrong. And thinking as well in an excuse to go and knock the door of a werewolf den. That was never a good idea. Less with a clan like this one.

He noticed that the werewolves, while added some ramparts and woodworks, weren't really builders or experts in fortificantion, as they didn't cut down the forest near the keep, that grow almost near to their walls. An excelent cover for anybody wanting to get near the fortress, or to escape from it. Bog needed to think how to enter there. And how to convince after that, the werewolves to leave him go. At least in one piece!

:iconvesha:, who win the "fashion contest" part of my contest, said that as award, I could see in his gallery and se if something inspire me.

Well, this did

Pumori, the half werewolf girl -only mentioned- it's from *kanyiko, as it is the White Fang.

Bogwas using his mad skillz in scouting and his ranger levels!

Looks like a small fort, in the grand scheme of things...  But they did put a lot of work into defending the approach to it.

It's indeed a small fort, of a minor -but violent, and know for bloddy- werewolf clan of Mondwargh!

That castle will fall very easily. The wall facing us is completely uncovered by the towers or any other kind of window for arrows. Sappers will be able to get right up to the wall without any fear, except maybe boiling oil, but the defenders would expose themselves trying to do that. Very poor design! BOO!

It's a rather early castle, and I think many fortifications, rather than being highly sucesful in a defense, are more meant to avoid an attack!

This fortress itself, more than the fortress, the dangers come from the werewolves living inside these ruins!

wouldnt werewolves be able to either smell or hear intruders well before other humanoids could ?
Shabazik Featured By Owner Dec 29, 2012  Hobbyist

-Would depend of the humanoid, thought. Elves hear better than werewolves, but in general, it's true-

so if an elf goes to a human settlement.... can he hear every bowelmovement in a 100 meter radius? because, that might explain the disgusted/snobbish attitude they have around humans.
