Description

Our secret weapon by Shabazik

“She is our secret weapon!” Lo’Kee said.

“Some mercenaries?” said a bit skeptic priestess Dahl’Arak.

“Not some mercenaries. Well, we have some mercenaries as well, but this isn’t the case. This is a special agent, I carefully handpicked precisely for this mission!” Xuunera said.

“And how she could help?”

“Well… maybe the better is to show you from first hand!” Lo’Kee said, as she walked away from Maylara Maltree. “Please! Use a fire ball on her!” Xuunera said, to the surprise of May. Shi’Nill raised an eyebrow.

“So expendable are you agents, that you want burn them even before all of this begin?” she said, as she casted a fireball

Maylara looked with big surprised eyes to both Priestess Dahl'Arak and Captain Lo'Kee.

“Throw her a fireball? Throw her a FIREBALL?!!" she said, as the priestess shoots her a fireball, with Lo'Kee stepping carefully aside, in a safe distance from May. Just in case!

"Damn!" thought May, as she quickly tried to catch the ball of magical fire... this wasn’t easy.

"Most surprising" said after a moment priestess Dahl'Arak, as she looked May collapse on the floor on her rear. She was able to change the direction of the spell, but only that. Priestess Dahl'Arak was surprised; she wasn't turned into a crisp.

The agent of Lo'Kee turned back to the Captain:

“Throw her a fireball? Throw her a FIREBALL?!! Don’t you think you should have warned me first?!!” protested Maylara.

“You have still a bit of fire there on your hair.” Said Captain Lo’Kee. That firewall was way to close for the comfort of May, and she did feel like some of her hairs did get burned. The smell as well told her!

“That isn’t funny!”

“I didn’t say it was funny!”

“You are laughing!”

Captain Lo’Kee covered her mouth. “No I’m not!”

“Yes you are!”

“Well, it WAS amusing, that’s true!”

Priestess Dahl'Arak wasn't amused of the antics of this supposed secret weapon and her mother's agent... but indeed, they had picked her interests.

"What was that, Captain?" asked the Priestess.

"She is a spellthief." explained the Captain. "She is able to steal the spells of the casters, and later use them against them!"

Dahl'Arak looked to Maylara, who was back into her feet.

"I know what a spellthief is. But I had never seen one, just read about them" Shi'Nill Dahl'Arak said to Xuunera Lo'Kee, before turning to Maylara. "How did you learn that? That's not drow magic... that's High Elven Arts.

Banned arts, I must add...

the last time anybody used them, was during the War of the Power.

Where did you learned that?"

“From a book” Maylara said. She didn’t know that spell-thief was high elven arts. So far she knew, they where from the book she stole from her boring teacher as a kid, back in the mountains in Nohalion.

“Well, that explains the sloppy lack of any technique” pointed Priestess Dahl’Arak.

“Hey!” Maylara protested. Shi’Nill ignored her protests.

“But what is most interesting, is that one just doesn’t read a spell book and learn some tricks, but need to have the maná affinity to them…Do you have some high elven ancestors, girl?”

“I’m not a girl” said Maylara.

“You need some decades to be a woman” said Shi’Nill. These younger drows, always they think they are old enough, and that make them adults. But Lo’Kee answered for May.

“She was raised in the surface” she explained.

Priestess Shi’Nill thought for a moment.

“I don’t think that’s the case. This would need further studies, thought…

So Captain: how is this strange specimen help in my mother’s plan?”

“Well, she have already done much that by conventional ways, we couldn’t do” the Captain explained. “And I was thinking, she can be a great advantage when we go against the High Sorceress.”

“I see the use she can have” Shi’Nill said. “But she is not ready.”

“What?” Maylara said.

“She simply can’t go against a powerful magic user, and think that a simple trick will do it” Shi’Nill said. This bothered much to Maylara. How can she say that?! She may not better fighter than an acolyte, but she can easily take any magic user!!

“Want to put that to a test?!” May said, assuming a battle stance.

“You will only further prove my point” Shi’Nill said… as she assumed as well her fighting stance for a duel…
