Description

The Ruhenian soldier, despite their simple uniforms and equipment, was very well trained and motivated. A Hardy fighter and remarkable marskmen, the Ruhenian soldiers where a resourceful and difficult enemy. Veterans of the Sucession War, a civil war that marked Ruhenian, the well trained reservists faced -and defeated- the numerically larger foes, taking from their enemies equipment which they will become masters at repairing and pressing back in action against their former owners, as the Ruhenian military industry, while producing weapons and equipment of remarkable quality, weren't able to keep up with the ever increasing demands of the army.

The Ruhenians will fight one after other Ignacians, Anglasecuarnians Marcelooneans, Pamelians and Baziks: but unable to keep up with the loss of personel, they had to increasingly reeplace their ranks with soldiers of occupied lands, foreign volunteers and mercenaries who didn't had the training -and determination- of the Ruhenians fighting for a conquered motherland.

The Kingdom of Ruhenia (Cyrvian: Königreich Ruhenia, alternatively as well known as Christophenia, Christopherian Kingdom or the Christopherian Kingdom of Ruhenia)is a country in Aels. It is a constitutional Kingdom, that during its history has gone from a unitary absolute monarchy to a federal constitutional monarchy. The country is situated in Western and Central Aels, where it is bordered by Motzabili, to the southeast, Anglasecuarnia to the southwest, Alailë to the west, Cyrvia to the north and Calintropia to the east.

Ruhenia is a landlocked country in a mountainous area and plateau.

The Kingdom of Ruhenia was established during the Anglasecuarnian Wars (3.139 - 3.155 a.a.H), when it proclaimed independence from the Calintropian Empire, being officially recognized their independence at the peace treaties that ended the Anglasecuarnian War.

The country will clash since early on with their neighbors of Motzabili, the Gastronomic EmpireAlailëCyrvia and Anglasecuarnia, fighting in the first decades of its existence all of their neighbours in sucessive wars and skirmishes, until their mainland territory was conquered by the Gastronomic Empire in the Second Wilzcroiser War (3.195 a.a.H): However, as they had seized the ignacian colony of Foncipoti in the Mercanian archipelago, the Kingdom will continue in existence, continuing with an aggressive expansionist policy, aimed to claim back their homeland, achieved at the 3224 a.a.H.

Originally a middle power, their aggressive international policy and alliances system will bring Ruhenia and their possessions to a role of a major power by the 3250 up to the 3300, later fading back again to a role of a middle power as it abandoned the colonial, expansionist policies and other traditional main powers returned, displacing Ruhenia.

Ruhenia in the Second Wilzcroiser war and the Continuation War of Sudchristophenia (3295-3202)

At the end of the XXXII century, Ruhenia had sized down it's armed forces after the Christopherian Succesion War, a civil war fought for the question of the sucession of the king and between the centralists and federalists forces of the realm. However, as the Gastronomic Empire of the Ignacians began a more aggresive policy toward Ruhenia, claiming the return of not only the lost lands in the mountain range of Wilzcroiser in the First Wilzcroiser War (3165), but the whole contested region, the Ruhenian army was quick to take out of the military depots the formerly decommissioned equipment, pressing it back to service, reinforcing the border fortifications and giving additional training to the reservists, and while the diplomacy tried to avoid war with the Ignacians, they bought new weapons and rearmed their forces.

When finally the conflict turned into an open war -the Second Wilzcroiser War- (3195), the Ruhenians began the war with a small army of 90,000 men: an army severly underestimated by the Ignacians, who massed for the invasion a numerous army, but made up from territorial reserve forces, poorly trained and with large ammounts of equipment -but aging one-, as their better forces where fighting in the Ignacian Wars against Bazikstan in the bloody Kagastan War.

The Ruhenians where quick to mobilize -in the first days, 250,000 reservists where called to arms-: but only a fraction of the million strong Ignacian army at their gates. But fighting a defensive war, the well trained reservists -many of them, veterans of the sucession war- staggered the massive Ignacian army in the Oswald line in the very border. This failure of what was expected to be just a walk in the park costed the head to the Ignacian general, and Anglasecuarnia was dragged to the war, invading from the south; but as more reservists where being formed by Ruhenia, they where able to defeat -and humiliate- the Anglasecuarnian Army in the Rod-Had-Ingriad battle -effectively pushing them off the war effort-.

Still receiving supplies across Pamelia -formally neutral, but as well menaced by Anglasecuarnia-, the Ruhenians considered they had a good chance to force the Ignacians to sign peace with only minor concessions in Wilzcroiser. But with the Anglasecuarnian army defeated by the Ruhenians -and no longer being an immediate threat-, Pamelia backed off their underground support due ignacian pressure: having their supply line cut, situation turned for worse to Ruhenia as the neighbouring countries of Cyrvia, the Calintropian Empire and Motzabili allowed the Ignacians armies to cross their territories to invade Ruhenia.

The Emperor Ignacio of the Gastronomic Empire didn't wanted anymore only Wilzcroiser, but to conquer the whole industrialised nation for their defiance toward the empire -and to use it as an asset against the Baziks.-

Attacked from all the flanks, the Ruhenian army made an orderly retreat toward their capital, fighting a costly last stand, until the fall of the city.

This war wasn't only fought in Ruhenia, but as well involved the Ruhenian ally of Slavkinia. the Slavkinians and their small colonial empire too where seen for the Ignacians as an asset to be seized, and used as excuse for invasion the presence of the Ruhenian Navy -formed under Slavkinian-Ruhenian treaties in Slavkinia, as Ruhenia was land-locked-. The Ruhenians and Slavkinians fought hard against the Ignacian army of Uslen, which interested the all-time foe of the Gastronomic Empire -Bazikstan-, which decided to enter the war, supporting the Slavkinians and Ruhenian efforts in the peninsula of Uslen: however, despite their promises of an army of at least 400,000 men, they only sended a single division.

While in Hieyoks and Zarhuy the ignacians easily took the Slavkinian colonies, the outnumbered allies retreated fighting to the south of the peninsula:

When reached the news of the fall of Ruhenia, Slavkinia was quick to sign a treaty with the Ignacian Empire -which butchered Slavkinia in half, lossing all it's colonies but remaining independent-. This treaty was rejected by the Ruhenians fighting in Slavkinia -and a large amounts of Slavkinians who saw their homes handed to the Ignacians-, and the Ruhenian fleet -along with the Slavkinian fleet, in mutiny- loaded all the malcontents with the peace: this fleet of hold-outs will land in the Ignacian colony of Mercania, and thanks to surprise -and the support of a local rebellion- will conquer the archipelago, claiming the creation of the Ruhenian Kingdom of Südchristophenia.

Ruled by a military junta of radical generals who didn't accepted the peace and the end of the war, they called for it's continuation until was liberated the captured homeland. The King of Ruhenia -that was able to escape the final offensive with the Ruhenian gold reserves- came to the exile in the island and in a speech, called for the Continuation War against the Gastronomic Empire. While in Ruhenia itself meant the formation of the Ruhenian Underground Army to fight an extenuant guerrilla warfare against the Ignacian occupation, all the resources of Südchristophenia were bent for a total war.

Receiving exiles -and all the enemies of the Gastronomic Empire-, once more time Bazikstan promised help and support in resources, money and weapons to the new insular nation -which with the worsening of the Ignacian Wars, didn't arrived in the promised ammount-

Knowing themselves to be too weak to try a direct action against the Ignacians, needing resources and manpower the vengenful generals deviced to take these from the "traitors": former allies or neutrals who had failed Ruhenia during the war, allowing the Ignacians to cross their territories -or backing off due the ignacian demands-. While they couldn't take on the larger, more powerful nations on this classification -Motzabili, the Calintropian Empire, Cyrvia and Bazikstan-, they decided to target instead weaker preys: Marcelooneo and Pamelia.

The invasion of Marcelooneo (3198), country that had allowed free military access to the Ignacians, was swift and an easy task for the Südchristopherian army -a mix of equipment and Ruhenian, Slavkinian and Mercanian soldiers, along foreign volunteers-, which prompted the Südchristopherian command to attempt a second adventure: to take the amazon principality of Pamelia (3199).

Unlike the Marcelooneans, the Pamelians resisted the Ruhenian invasion, and what they expected to take from a swift movement, turned in a vicious war -the Pamelchristopherian War-, that lasted from the 3199-3201, costing the Ruhenians resources they could hardly spend in a secondary campaign: specially as a series of major defeats of the Ignacian Empire against the Baziks in their wars gave them a window of opportunity to strike a momentarily weakened key colony of the Gastronomic Empire in the eastern Caritz sea: the Dezai.

The War of the Dezai (3201) was the invasion of Südchristophenia of the Northeastern Ignacian Zarhuy -the Dezai-, swiftly defeating the Ignacian colonial garrison. The Oil of the Dezai was in their hands.

With the victories on the Dezai and the peace with Pamelia -along with Ignacian defeats in their Ignacian wars- looked like fortune was finally smilling to the Südchristopherians in their continuation war:

However, as the Dezai was a former territory of the old Cretorian Empire -with Bazikstan claiming to be it's formal sucessor-, Bazikstan demanded for the Ruhenians to hand over the rich region. Ruhenians, dependant on the oil for their projects -further reinforcing their army and navy- refused, as they too feel in the past Bazikstan had failed to provide the promised support.

This leaded to the Bazco-Ruhenian War (3201-3202) a short but brutal war: a war that was yet other distraction from the true goal of Südchristophenia.

The assassination of the Bazik ruler -General Mohammad Bas Camilo in his vacations in Scuba-, along with the worsening of the Ignacian-Bazik war in Kagastan -being as well for Bazikstan in the end the war with Südchristophenia a distraction-, the new government of Bazikstan signed a peace treaty with the Ruhenians -who retreated from the Dezai, to hand it over to the Baziks-.

However, as an ignacian army sweeped in after the Ruhenian retreat, the Baziks failed to secure the Dezai -reopening instead an old front with the Ignacians.-

The costs of their adventures in Pamelia and the Dezai and the change of fortunes of war once more in the Kagastan -in favour for the Ignacians- forced the Südchristopherian command to accept that they weren't going to be able on the short term to liberate their homeland, and that they couldn't face the Ignacians with their current strenght: they needed first to consolidate what they had.

While never actually a peace treaty was signed, the Continuation War of Südchristophenia ended, focusing now in a long term plan -a plan of economic success, industrialization and colonial exansion, before a military expansion, that will be a success and one of the bases for the posterior Ruhenian power-.

The Ruhenian homeland -a permanent spine in the side of the Gastronomic Empire due the local resistance, rather than the asset they expected it to be- will become once again indepedent at the 3224 -returning the Ruhenian monarchy-, more due Ignacian weakness rather than the actions of the Südchristopherians.
