A Dark Alley by Shabazik

The day to sail had come, and as the ship was maneuvering to leave the port of Moh'Amndinké, the white Hermit watched it from the deck of the ship...

The sea journey made him remember his younger days, in what seemed almost like another life.

"Excuse me, are you Akbar the Small?" asked someone behind him.

The high elf in disguise slowly turned, seeing there a drow and a sand elven woman.

"More drow in just one ship? Don't you people live in the Underworld, or has the whole Kazrrad moved to the sea, now?" he said in Blazakhovian. How it is that he hadn't seen drow in years, and suddenly they seem to pop up under every stone?

"I wanted to travel in this ship specifically because there are others like me in it." said the drow, uncomfortable. "The Captain of the ship said you are a blacksmith, yes?"

"Yes I am"

"Could you please have a look at my sword?" she asked.

Akbar the Small raised an eyebrow, wondering if that was some sort of attempt at being flirty, she was messing with him, or what. One couldn't know for sure, until the drow drew out from her sheath a scimitar:

Akbar took it by the hilt, looking at the finely crafted scimitar, with an Ivory handle, and a gem encrusted hilt.

"Why did you want me to look at your sword? It isn't damaged..."

"I wanted to know if it was magical."

"Magic." said Belád. "Why do people always confuse the fine work of an artisan with magic? This sword has no magic in it, but rather a work of art. Though I shouldn't say so myself."

"Why not?" said the Sand Elf, Effria, to the disguised White Hermit.

"One shouldn't praise his own work," said the old high elf, smiling, as he felt the weight of the scimitar; with an excellent balance, strong, and flexible; one of his best works in his opinion.

"You could never have made that sword. Is at least more than a century old!" said the drow Sword Dancer Shazeer'ah to what she obviously thought was a human.

"Appearances can deceive" said Belád. "But I do wonder now... how did you get the scimitar of that old magician Laceris?"

Shazeer'ah and Effria were obviously uncomfortable, and didn't answer directly.

"He left it to me," said the drow.

Belád didn't believe her, but he didn't really care either.  He gave the drow back the scimitar. The sand elf magician was just an old client, and not even a good one or a friend. He just hoped that this drow wouldn't bring him any more problems.

He already had enough with "his" own three drow.

Edit 02.05.2017: fixed a couple things, rescanned, added lights, shadows and details.

The drow and sand elf here are characters of :iconempress-of-ravens:, who helped me correct the old text!
